I’ve always been a big believer in the open sharing of knowledge and information, and I absolutely love teaching people what I know. You don’t need all the expensive tools to make cool stuff. I use free and open source software almost exclusively paired with 40 year old lenses from https://shopgoodwill.com.
I’ve been meaning to start making YouTube videos about gear and software and how to use it. I want to show people that art is accessible. I’m hoping to get that project rolling soon because that really is a driving factor in all of this for me. Anyone can learn to write a song on a $10 guitar found at Goodwill, and Adobe doesn’t need a cut out of every photographer’s profits.
Nothing gets me more excited than showing somebody how to do something new. I got good at learning a long time ago with the help of half my family being teachers. Now I want to save others those hours scouring Google for what an effect is called, how to do it in Photoshop, and researching how to do all those techniques from Photoshop in free software (I use Darktable and Krita, by the way).
So I’m gonna paywall some of my results because what I’m trying to make happen is about a dozen full-time jobs and I need your help, but the tutorials will be free because art shouldn’t be pay-to-play.
Anyway, I saw this pixel stretch effect is trending. Thought I’d try my hand at it. These were my first attempts. Let me know what you think and if you’d like to learn how to do it!
Also, this is still a music page too. Stay tuned.
